Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Facilities Planning and Management Department at Iowa State University is seeking applicants for a Tree Care Specialist who will apply knowledge and experience to provide general care, maintenance, and treatments to a variety of trees and shrubs. This position requires the safe operation and maintenance of aerial lift trucks, chippers, stumpers and chainsaws, hand/power tools, dump trucks, end loaders, and climbing equipment. This position is responsible for applying chemical applications and completing State spray records. In addition, this position regularly assists with banner installations on campus and other work that requires the use of an aerial lift truck. The successful candidate will work well in a team environment, communicate effectively, and make safety a priority.

Required Qualifications

1. Two years experience in tree maintenance or related work or any combination of related experience and education from which comparable knowledge and ability can be acquired which totals two years. 2. Successful completion of commercial certification tests for application of pesticides and be eligible for certification, as required. May be required to successfully complete other commercial certification tests. 3.May be required to obtain Commercial Drivers License (CDL).



Special Qualifications

Must be certified in Commercial Pesticide Applicator License Category 3OT and able to provide a copy of your certification at an interview.


Must be certified in the Category 6 Pesticide License or able to obtain within 90 days of employment.


Must have a CDL Class A license with air endorsement or able to obtain within 6 months of employment.



Preferred Qualifications

-Successful completion of Certified Tree Worker/Climber Specialist exam or equivalent training.
-Experience operating tree care equipment.
-Experience with tree work in residential areas, dealing with traffic and pedestrians.
-Ability to communicate effectively, professionally and positively with others.
-Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks according to safety guidelines.
