Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) in the College of Engineering seeks qualified applicants for a Department Manager to oversee daily operations and manage the MSE Department. This includes the supervision and evaluation of staff in areas of finance, facilities, academic advising, and information technology.

The Department Manager will assist the department chair, associate chairs, and other administrators in developing the department's strategic direction and make recommendations by providing advice on process improvements and efficiency of departmental operations. This position will also serve as liaison between MSE faculty and staff and other university constituents. Other responsibilities include managing all building and space issues in the department including assignment of building security, offices, computer laboratories, and other spaces to accommodate long-term and unexpected needs. This position will plan and project finances including state appropriations, research funding, start-up funding, gift funds, and special funding.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a Master's degree; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 6 years unless otherwise specified under supplemental required education and experience. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position.
