Leisure Services Volunteer
At Green Hills, we want to help everyone whose lives we touch--our residents, their families, and guests of our Senior Care Health Center--to be able to live life the way they choose, as healthy and independent as possible. Primary Purpose and Function Our volunteers enable us to more effectively serve our residents. Volunteers improve services, expand programs, and ensure residents receive the highest quality support. Volunteer opportunities offer valuable experience to learn more about working with people of all abilities, communication skills, customer service, and project planning. Person Directed Care Person Directed Care emphasizes the individual resident. The resident is not a diagnosis but a person who comes to us with individual backgrounds, lifestyles, and routines that our goal is to maintain and foster. Person Directed Care is modifying our schedules and procedures to accommodate the residentsi schedule so that it may be as much like their routine at home as possible. Person Directed Care is about making the resident become the focus of everything we do. A large part of Green Hillis Person Directed Care philosophy is to enrich the lives of our residents and staff through creating bonds among each. Our volunteers are expected to be comfortable socializing and interacting with our residents of all abilities and limitations. Key Responsibilities (Responsibilities are dependent on time of day of volunteering): 1. Conducts 1:1 programs with residents who are designated by the Leisure Service Coordinator to need such a program and documents each 1:1 activity. 2. Assists with group activities for the residents as outlined by the Leisure Service Coordinator. This is not limited to, but may include: exercise class, socials, music programs, games, travelogues, church services and educational presentations. May help with setup, getting residents to the activity, leading the activity, and taking residents back to rooms. 3. Documents one to one visits and what activities you help with. 4. Assists with tasks for a resident, which may include but is not limited to: writing a letter, reading, organizing a closet, or taking them on a stroll. 5. Assists in decorating the Health Center appropriately for special or seasonal events such as creating table centerpieces or dicor. 6. Becomes familiar with residentis leisure time interests and abilities and encourages residents to participate in group activities appropriate to their interest and abilities. Specifications: Time Commitment: One to two hours a day Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM i 11:30 AM or 2:00 PM - 5:30 PM. Mental Demand Must possess good communication skills, both verbal and written. Must have problem-solving skills. Must be patient and able to maintain composure in a stressful environment. Working Conditions Will be exposed on occasion to verbally and physically abusive residents. Normally works in well-lighted area. During emergency situations, may be exposed to cold, rain, and heat. During emergency situations, must be able to walk and climb stairs rapidly. During emergency situations, may be subject to long work hours. May be exposed to communicable diseases including influenza, HIV and Hepatitis. May be exposed to unpleasant odors, high heat levels, and institutional cleaning chemicals.
