Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

Iowa State University seeks a dynamic and accomplished scholar to serve as Director of the School of Education. The school director is the chief executive officer of the school and reports to the dean. The director is responsible for leading the overall work of the unit in the areas of teaching, research, and service, preparing and administering the budget, and recommending personnel actions. The school director will also recommend merit salary recommendations to the dean. The school director is also responsible for the overall academic supervision of the unit's students. Through significant interaction with faculty, the school director holds key leadership roles in recruiting high-quality faculty and students, facilitating faculty development, developing and implementing quality academic programs, and advancing the unit's resources and program quality. The director serves as a member of the college cabinet and plays a key role in the development and implementation of the college's interdisciplinary program.

Required Education and Experience

Candidates must have a doctoral degree in an appropriate field and scholarly accomplishments commensurate with appointment as Full Professor.

We seek a leader with demonstrated commitment in professional practice to equity, diversity, and social justice; successful administrative experience at a university, including demonstrated commitment to community building and shared governance in administrative practice; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and foster strong partnerships with stakeholders, including students, staff, faculty and education/community leaders; and an demonstrated understanding and appreciation of the broad and interdisciplinary landscape of education as an academic field of study, including the variety of professional preparation programs across the P-20 continuum, the variety of areas/topics of scholarly focus, and the variety of methodological approaches to educational inquiry.

Experience raising funds from external sources, serving as a leader in national or international professional organizations, and/or leading grants.
